This feel-good musical tackles many issues that are important to young people in modern day society by dealing with significant themes such as race equality, personal image and learning to love the person that you are. Set against the backdrop of the civil rights movement in 1960s America, the musical’s heroine Tracy Turnblad, campaigns for integration and equal rights for her fellow black classmates, providing an important reminder of those turbulent times, and making her an excellent role model for this current generation.
